Although the tuberculosis rate in Germany and in the Western industrialized nations is stable, it is still one of the most significant infectious diseases worldwide. Immigrants and asylum seekers make up a large proportion of new cases, and with 15%, the occurrence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients from the former Soviet Union is above average.
