Poultry excreta as partial substitute of concentrate feeds for growing cross-bred calves

Poultry excreta as partial substitute of concentrate feeds for growing cross-bred calves

Indian Veterinary Medical Journal 23(2): 89-91

Dried poultry excreta (DPE) was incorporated to replace standard concentrate mixture at 0 (T1). 10 (T2), 20(T3) and 30 (T4) percent level and was fed to four groups having 4 cross-bred calves of about 10-12 m age. After 120 d of feeding a metabolic trial was conducted. Intake of DM, DCP and TDN was found to be non-significant among various treatments. Digestibility of proximate principles were significantly higher (P<0.01) in T3 and T2 than T0 and T1. The DCP and TDN intake were estimated to be 316.00, 340.50, 356.50 and 382.50g and 2.82, 2.72, 3.20 and 3.36 kg, respectively for group T1 to T4. The body weight gain (g/d) was 312.49, 349.99, 374.99 and 439.58 in T1, T2, T3 and T4 groups, respectively. It is concluded that DPE may be used as partial substitute of concentrate mixture in ruminant ration, if made pathogen free.
