Salvelinus gritzenkoi: A new species of char from the north Kuril Islands (Salmonidae, Salmoniformes)

Salvelinus gritzenkoi: A new species of char from the north Kuril Islands (Salmonidae, Salmoniformes)

Folia Zoologica 49(4): 317-320

A new species of char Salvelinus gritzenkoi sp. nov. is described from deep volcanic isolated Lake Chernoye on the Onekotan Island (north Kuril Islands). This species is the most morphologically related to south dolly varden S. krascheninnikovi from which it is easily distinguished by several craniological characters (the probability of misidentification is much less than 1 %).
