The morphology of xenarthrous vertebrae (Mammalia: Xenarthra)

, : The morphology of xenarthrous vertebrae (Mammalia: Xenarthra). Fieldiana Geology (41): i-iv, 1-38

The presence of supplementary intervertebral articulations termed xenarthrales in the posterior dorsal vertebrae has been considered perhaps the most important diagnostic feature of the mammalian order Xenarthra. Xenarthrales are poorly understood, however, and substantial confusion exists in the literature over which facets are supplementary and which are not.

The intraislet insulin hypothesis proposes that the decrement in beta-cell insulin secretion during hypoglycemia provides an activation signal for alpha-cells to release glucagon. A more recent hypothesis proposes that zinc atoms suppress glucago...

Two strains of V. lecanii were studied as potential biocontrol agents for root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) on cantaloupe melons. Pots were filled with soil that had been inoculated with M. incognita (1000 or 5000 eggs/pot). Each fungus s...
