The role of color Doppler energy and color Doppler flow imaging in the diagnosis of renal neoplasm

Objective: To compare the roles of color Doppler energy (CDE) and color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) in the diagnosis of renal neoplasm. Methods: Fifty-one cases with different kinds of renal neoplasm were examined by CDE and CDFI. The blood supply characteristics of renal neoplasm and the showing ability of CDE and CDFI were studied and compared. Results: 92.7% renal cell carcinomas showed high blood perfusion, 80.5% of them were high grade perfusion, 50% of them appeared abnormal blood pattern; but all the benign renal tumors were low grade perfusion and their blood patterns were much different from that of renal cell carcinoma (P<0.01). CDE is excellent than CDFI in 52.9%, CDE is equal to CDFI in 47.1%. The sensitivity of CDE is significant different of CDFI. Conclusion: CDE may nicely distinguish the malignant renal neoplasm to benign tumor, and its showing ability of the blood flow of renal neoplasm is superior to CDFI.
