Effects of low shear stress on Bcl-2 and Bax expression of vascular smooth muscle cells in common carotid atherosclerosis

Objective To investigate effects on low shear stress in atherosclerosis formation and apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) of common carotid artery. Methods An atherosclerosis model of common carotid artery under low shear stress has been set up, and expression of Bcl-2 and Bax protein in rabbit's VSMC were studied by immunohistochemical method. Results The expressions of Bcl-2 protein decreased while Bax protein increased under low shear stress in atherosclerosis formation.
