Sonographic appearance of diaphragmatic muscular bundles

Sonographic appearance of diaphragmatic muscular bundles

Zhongguo Chaosheng Yixue Zazhi 20(3): 196-199

Objective: To investigate the incidence and appearance of diaphragmatic muscular bundles. Methods : Two hundred and seventeen consecutive patients, both in-patients and out-patients, were studied carefully with US scanning where diaphragmatic muscular bundles were seen. Their position. number and shape were recorded. The liver-diaphragm relations were compared with that of spleen-diaphragm. Results: There were 38 diaphragmatic muscular bundles, in which 5 were multiple bundles. No difference was found in sexes. The incidence increased with age. up to 34.1% over 70 years old. Diaphragmatic muscular bundles may mimic nodular hyperechoic structures in liver, and consecutive scans would help to make correct differential diagnosis. As for spleen, no diaphragmatic muscular bundles were found. Conclusions: Existence of diaphragmatic muscular bundles is not rare. To master knowledge of diaphragmatic muscular bundles wilt avoid misdiagnosing liver lesions.
