Allelopathic effect of aqueous extracts of weed species on germination and seedling growth of some crops

The allelopathic effects of extracts of Cyperus rotundus, Commelina benghalensis, Parthenium hysterophorus and Prosopis juliflora leaves (collected from Karnataka, India) at two concentrations (5 and 10% w/v) on sorghum, wheat, green gram, soyabean, and sunflower and groundnut were studied in the laboratory. The results revealed that Commelina and Cyperus extracts had greater inhibitory effect on germination, seedling length and seedling vigour index, than the leaf extracts of the other crops.
