Broom grass (Thysanolaena maxima) hedges: a bioengineering device for erosion control and slope stabilization

Broom grass (Thysanolaena maxima) hedges: a bioengineering device for erosion control and slope stabilization

Ground and water bioengineering for erosion control and slope stabilization: 143-149

A brief account of the botany, ecology, phenology, mode of propagation, cultivation, management and socioeconomic aspects of broom grass, Thysanolaena maxima is presented. Also presented are the effects of broom grass hedges on soil conservation and slope stabilization. T. maxima, locally known as 'chorondhora', a non-timber forest product of Bangladesh, grows wild in open degraded country, particularly on cut slopes and very steep sloping land.
