Carbon sequestration potential in degraded soils of arid and semi-arid regions of India through people's participation



International Journal of Forest Usufructs Management 7(1): 17-25



A study was conducted in 66 villages under 6 different ecozones: degraded forest land; land with scrub; salt-affected land; degraded pasture; gully/ravine; and desert/sand dune, to assess people's participation and carbon sink expansion in the degraded soils of arid and semiarid regions of India. The level of people's participation was assessed by land use, livestock and human population, family size, literacy, income, occupation and working for the welfare of societies.
