A total of four material samples were collected in the Alegria iron mine (Mariana, Minas Gerais, Brazil), identified as phyllite, soil, overburden rock, and mine spoil, for chemical, physical and mineralogical characterization. All four materials were poor in plant macro- and micronutrients, presenting low amounts of organic and physical characteristics which hinder the development of the plant root system.
