The conflicts between the Tianmu Nature Reserve, Zhejiang Province, China, and its peripheral communities were analysed by interviewing 12 groups from Tianmu Nature Reserve administration bureau, west Tianmu township government, forestry technicians, representatives of local villages and surveying 104 households and 46 public in the form of questionnaire. Restricting the management of wild bamboo shoots resulted in the decrease in income of the local farmers.
