Effects of different nitrogen fertilizer managements on dry matter accumulation, yield, and water and nitrogen use efficiency in winter wheat

In a field experiment with the winter wheat variety Jingdong 8, three treatments were compared: A, optimized sprinkler irrigation (based on soil moisture analysis), ploughing-under the crop residues and optimized fertilizer application (with N rate based on determination of field Nmin); B, optimized irrigation and optimized fertilizer application; and C, traditional irrigation (irrigation by plots) and fertilizer application (150 kg N/ha) practiced by the local farmers.
