Interspecific hybridization was conducted between cultivars of sweet cherry (Prunus avium) and Chinese cherry (P. pseudocerasus), and embryo rescue technique was successfully applied to recover hybrid plantlets. The effects of parental cultivars on cross compatibility and embryo growth of distant hybrids were studied. The results showed that fruit set rates were different among cross combinations.
