Epidemiology of tick-borne diseases in Poland

Epidemiology of tick-borne diseases in Poland

Przeglad Epidemiologiczny 60(Suppl. 1): 151-159

This paper summarizes information on tickborne diseases in Poland. The most prevalent diseases are Lyme borreliosis and tickborne encephalitis. There is no national data on anaplasmosis and babesiosis. Ixodes ricinus is a common tickborne disease vector. Data from seroepidemiological studies and routine surveillance (commencing 1996) confirm that Lyme borreliosis is widespread in Poland and its incidence is increasing; incidence increased from 2.31/100 000 in 1999 to 11.55/100 000 in 2005.
