Epidural administration of morphine and reduced intestinal transit

Epidural administration of morphine and reduced intestinal transit

Pratique Veterinaire Equine 38(150): 59-63, 4

Epidural morphine is not associated with motor blocks. It induces strong analgesia during several hours. Systemic administration of morphine induces few side effects, included intestinal hypomobility. The subject is to determine if intestinal hypomobility is also observed with epidural administration. A retrospective study is conducted on horses with arthroscopic surgery of the hind-limb: with or without perioperative morphine administration.
