Establishment of an aseptic culture of banana micropropagation in vitro

A protocol for tissue culture propagation of banana plantlets was developed. The experiments were performed with 3 banana cultivars (Grand Nain, Williams and Dwarf) using (1) suckers from field-grown virus-free banana plants, and (2) adapted virus-free plantlets resulting from tissue culture grown in a greenhouse. The growth rate increased in the case of meristem tip culture excised from plantlets than from suckers.
