Estimates of genetic and non-genetic parameters for survival traits of Scottish Blackface lambs

Estimates of genetic and non-genetic parameters for survival traits of Scottish Blackface lambs

Proceedings of the 8th World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, 13-18 August, 2006: 04-18

The objectives of this study were to identify and estimate genetic and non genetic factors affecting lamb viability at birth, survival from 1 d to 120 d, from 1 d to 14 d, from 15 d to 120 d and from 120 d to 180 d. The data were analyzed assuming linear and Weibull models using, respectively, binary and actual survival time data. Lamb survival was generally found to be affected by lamb gender, type of birth, age of dam, farm and year of birth.
