Estimating the structure of natural regeneration based on inventory data

The study describes a statistical model for estimating the occurrence, density and composition of natural regeneration, including distributions of tree dimensions and species. The estimates were derived from stand parameters which are routinely assessed in the Lower Saxony (Germany) forest inventories. The model presented in this paper forms the biometrical basis for the development of a software module, which can be implemented in a forest growth simulator.
