Estimating yield and environmental risks associated with variable rate nitrogen management for corn using Apollo

The Apollo decision support system was used to run the CERES-Maize crop model for understanding N flows and crop yield response in an Iowa cornfield. A prescription analysis was completed for 21 spring-applied N rates over 37 years of historical weather for 100 grids with varying soil properties. Model runs provided the crop yield and unused N at the end of the growing season for all combinations of N rate, grid, and weather year.
