Estimation of abdominal fat thickness in live ostriches using ultrasound technique

Ostriches store fat along the abdominal floor, starting from just in front of the legs and extending all the way to the pubic bone. The thickness of this abdominal fat layer (AFL) was measured ultrasonically on live birds, using a probe with a gel applied for good contact with the abdomen.
