Estimation of genetic parameters and variance components for growth traits in Costeno Con Cuernos cattle in Colombian humid tropic

Estimation of genetic parameters and variance components for growth traits in Costeno Con Cuernos cattle in Colombian humid tropic

Proceedings of the 8th World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, 13-18 August 2006: 32-20

Estimates of variance components, phenotypic and genetic parameters were obtained for birth, 240 and 480 days weight, for a Colombian Creole cattle herd, Costeno Con Cuernos (CCC), were analyzed 2309 birth weight records (BW), 1803 weaning weight records adjusted to 270 d (WW) and 1019 adjusted to 480 d. weight records (480-d W), that were analyzed by restricted maximum likelihood (REML) fitting an animal model including direct and maternal genetics and permanent environmental effects.
