Estimation of salicylic acid and its role in resistance mechanism in chickpea against Meloidogyne incognita

The role of salicylic acid on the resistance of chickpea cultivars BGD 72, BGD 93, Pusa 256, Pusa 390, Pusa 391, BG 1044, Pusa 1105, Pusa 1108, Pusa 267 and Pusa 362 against M. incognita was determined during the rabi season of 2004. All the tested cultivars were moderately resistant to the pest except for Pusa 362 which was susceptible to the nematode. Moderately resistant cultivars had higher salicylic content compared to the susceptible cultivar.
