Estimation of variances for gametic effects on growth traits and litter size in Large White swine

Records on 1184 replacement pigs and 3375 sows between 2000 and 2005 on Yiyang Swine Breeding Farm and Zhenghong Swine Breeding Farm were analyzed to test for effects of gametic imprinting by estimating variances for parent-specific gametic effects. The results of estimating variance components of gametic imprinting were as below: (1) For age at 100 kg, estimates of the proportion of total variance accounted for by paternally transmitted gametes is 2.7% in Large White swine.
