Ethnobotanical heritage of Nicobrese tribe

Journal of Economic and Taxonomic Botany 30(2): 331-348

The present communication deals with an ethnobotanical profile of 197 species used by the Nicobarese tribe. The tribe belongs to mongoloid races and inhabits in twelve islands of Andaman & Nicobar archipelago in Bay of Bengal. They have their own languages and follow the traditional way of life and culture. The ethnobotanical. wealth of Nicobarese is presented in this paper dealing with plants used as wild edible, medicine, timber and wood-works, making canoe and other material requirement of the day-to-day needs and primary healthcare.
