Evaluation and selection of the parents of some cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) genotypes for salinity tolerance at seedling stage

Greenhouse experiments were conducted to determine the genotypic variability in the salinity tolerance of 15 cotton genotypes at the seedling stage using distilled water as control and 0.15 and 0.20 M NaCl as the saline treatments. With respect to salinity tolerance, increasing NaCl concentration significantly reduced germination, emergence and seedling shoot and root length, showing considerable variation among the cotton genotypes.
