Forest certification and environmental services payment as mechanisms for the promotion of sustainable management of natural forest in Costa Rica

Even though they are considered vital to implement sustainable forest management, real impacts of environmental service payment (PSA) and voluntary forest certification (CFV) are unknown in Costa Rica. This study pretended to assess PSA and CFV impacts on environmental performance of natural forests managed for wood production. A methodology based on criteria and indicators for the National Standard's Principle 6, and for biological monitoring was used.
