Genetic (co)variances and breeding value estimation for pigs gompertz growth curve parameters

Gompertz function has been shown to describe well the potential growth of pigs over age. The most important parameters are the adult weight and maturation rate. The third parameter describes the relative initial weight. With these parameters it is possible to estimate the weight of animal at any life stage. In designing breeding programs it is important to know the genetic relationships between early growth and mature size as well as rate of maturing.
