Intercrop for rice blast management in Sichuan province

Intercrop for rice blast management in Sichuan province

Southwest China Journal of Agricultural Sciences 19(3): 418-422

The technique of using mixture planting for biodiversity to manage rice blast (Pyricularia grisea) was extended in 113 counties of 18 prefectures in Sichuan province (China) and the total area accounted for 145.9x104 hm2 from 2002 to 2005. A total of 517 combinations involving hybrid and glutinous cultivars were chosen. The disease incidence and disease index of the glutinous rice in the intercropping were decreased by 56.97% and 66.38% than that in monoculture, respectively.
