Reproduction and maternal performance of two-year-old topcross females by tropical adapted sire breeds in temperate and subtropical regions of the United States

Reproduction and maternal performance of two-year-old topcross females by tropical adapted sire breeds in temperate and subtropical regions of the United States

Proceedings of the 8th World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, 13-18 August 2006: 32-06

Semen from Beefmaster, Bonsmara, Brangus, and Romosinuano sires was used to produce F1 females from Angus and MARC III females in NE. At about 8 months of age, half the females in each breed group were transferred to LA. Sire breed of female x location was significant for calving ease score, percentage unassisted births, and 205-d weaning weight. Percent unassisted births were greater in LA than NE for Beefmaster, Bonsmara, and Brangus sired females but not for Romosinuano sired females.
