Reproductive and commercial productivity of the cultivated eri silkmoth Samia ricini Donovan (1798) in Orissa

Reproductive and commercial productivity of the cultivated eri silkmoth Samia ricini Donovan (1798) in Orissa

Bulletin of Indian Academy of Sericulture 8(1): 87-92

Eri silkmoth, S. ricini, is cultivated in limited pockets of rural Orissa, India. The rearing is conducted 4-6 times in a year and leaves of castor plant (Ricinus communis) either grown in the wild or cultivated are fed. Though, rearing is performed under seasonal environmental conditions and it generally spreads over summer to winter seasons of the year, the reproductive and commercial productivity were never correlated in Orissa.
