Research on the seed germination physiology in Helianthus annuus

A research in laboratory conditions with seeds of H. annuus Turbo indicated that the average mass increased (44.8 times) through imbibition in the first 24 h; the daily average increase of the seedling mass during imbibition for 5 days varied between 24.4 and 34.9%. The permeability index decreased from 0.2 to 0.14% in the first 4 days of germination as a result of the rebuilding of the plasmatic membrane structure, while after 9 days it increased to its initial value.
