Response of soyabean cultivars to bentazon in the Tohoku region, Japan

Field experiments were conducted in Tohoku, Japan, to determine the response of 24 soyabean cultivars to the post-emergence applications of bentazon (bentazone). Sensitivity to bentazon varied widely among the soyabean cultivars. The old cultivars Shin No. 2 and Misao, were the most sensitive to bentazon and were killed upon the application of bentazon at the 2-3 trifoliate leaf stage. The cultivars Tachiyutaka, Yumeminori and Shin No. 4 were highly sensitive to bentazon.
