The competitive advantages of residential tourist destinations in the province of Valencia. A case study from Calpe

Papers de Turisme 36: 21-39

Data obtained in a case study on the development of tourism, carried out in Calpe in the province of Valencia, were used to assess the validity of the theory of competitive advantage, developed by Michael Porter in 1990. It was concluded that this theory is valid for the explanation of the general process of tourism development and that it is very suitable for explaining the development of residential tourism on the Spanish coast.
