Use of mares as embryo recipients after first post partum ovulation

Use of mares as embryo recipients after first post partum ovulation

Havemeyer Foundation Monograph Series (14): 105-107

During two breeding seasons in a commercial embryo transfer (ET) programme, 131 embryos were transferred non-surgically to reproductively healthy mares. Recipient mares aged 3-12 years old were distributed in three experimental groups: GI (n=42) cyclic mares without foals, GII (n=50) mares in foal heat and GIII (n=39) mares on the second cycle after foaling. Embryo recoveries were performed at Day 8 post ovulation.
