Correlation and path analysis of some quantitative characters in F-2 population of Indian mustard Brassica juncea (L) Czern and Coss

Fifty eight F-2 populations were evaluated for thirteen characters. Correlation studies at genotypic and phenotypic level Indicated that seed yield/plant, seeds/siliqua and test weight were positive and significantly associated with oil content (%). Seed yield/plant was also positively and significantly associated with main shoot length, primary and secondary branches/plant, siliqua length, seeds/siliqua, siliquac/plant and test weight. The path analysis revealed that seed yield had maximum direct effect on oil content followed by test weight and seeds/siliqua. The studies suggest that selection for test weight, seed yield/plant and seeds/siliqua are important to improve oil content (%) in Indian mustard.
