Evaluation of some new inbred lines of maize for combining ability

The combining ability of 8 inbred lines of maize and their topcrosses was evaluated by line x tester analysis in a field experiment conducted in Egypt in 2000-01. Non-additive genetic variance was observed in the inheritance of grain yield an number of kernels per row, whereas additive genetic variance was observed in the inheritance of silking date, plant and ear height, ear diameter, number of rows per ear, 100-kernel weight and late wilt resistance.
