To identify some enzymatic resistance mechanisms in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), a study was made of the interaction of the late blight (Phytopthera infestans Mont., de Bary)-potato virus X (Potexvirus) mixed infection, on the enzymatic activity of the Alpha and Zafira varieties, susceptible and resistant to late Night, with or without virus and with or without chemical protection (weekly rotation of dimetorf-mancozeb, chlorotalonyl-metalaxyl, and cymoxanyl) in the Valley of Toluca, Mexico. At first, the activity of the peroxidase (POX) was greater in Alpha than in Zafiro with or without virus; then it increased in Zafiro without fungicides and with virus. The activity of the phenylalanine, amonialyase (PAL) was minimal, in plants with or without virus, but higher without fungicides. The phenols (FEN) were not indicative of protection. The activity of the POX and the PAL in resistant plants, without fungicides and with virus, showed a higher correlation with the defense mechanisms. Furthermore, there was a higher metabolic activity and early temporal resistance in the presence of the virus, independently of the genetic resistance of the host to P. infestans. The fungicides limited the infection, accompanied by low enzymatic correlation, mainly in the Zafiro variety, resistant to late blight.
