A field experiment conducted in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, during kharif 2003 showed that date of transplanting did not influence plant height, leaf area index (LAI), straw yield and other yield attributing characters and produced statistically similar grain yield for Basmati rice. Plant population of 25 and 33 hills m-2 produced taller plant, whereas population of 44 hills m-2 recorded significantly higher LAI.
