In situ digestibility of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) as fresh forage or silage, with or without urea

In situ digestibility of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) as fresh forage or silage, with or without urea

Brazilian Journal of Veterinary Research and Animal Science 43(4): 502-509

ISSN/ISBN: 1413-9596

Twelve rumen cannulated male sheep were used to evaluate ruminal effective degradability (EDG) and volatile fatty acids (VFA), ammonia nitrogen (N-NH3) and pH of rumen contents, and blood uric nitrogen. The animals received six treatments in a 2x3 factorial arrangement: sugar cane fresh (CAF) or as silage (CAS) x urea levels of 0, 0.5 and 1.0% for both forages. The values of EDG for CAF and CAS dry matter (DM) were not significantly different.
