Field runoff plot experiments were performed under different fertilizer application systems in purple soil in the sloping cropland in Sichuan, China, to monitor runoff and sediment yields and N loss. Application of fertilizer reduced runoff and sediment yields. The runoff and sediment yields decreased by 68.2 and 67.3% with combined application of manure and chemical fertilizer, and those decreased by 80.3 and 92.6% with combination of straw returning and chemical fertilizer, respectively.
