The occurrence of leaf rust disease of mulberry plant (Morus alba) in lowland humid forest of southwestern Nigeria

The aetiology and epidemiology of leaf rust of mulberry (M. alba) were investigated during 2000-02 at Ibadan, southwestern Nigeria. Cerotelium fici was associated with leaf blight and seedling blight of mulberry. Field symptoms of the disease, which were common in the dry and wet seasons, started with numerous pin-head-sized circular brownish to black eruptive lesions on the surface of the leaves. The affected leaves became yellowish and withered as the disease became severe.
