Specific features of the structure of dark coniferous forests in the southern taiga of Western Siberia

Mixed dark coniferous forests at the southeastern boundary of the Western Siberian taiga were the objects under study. On 104, sample plots, the total enumeration of trees and selection of tree models were carried out. The diameters, heights, and age of these model trees were determined. The model trees were divided into three groups depending on the distribution of their stems by thickness. The data of measuring 2346 fir trees, 1559 spruce trees, and 417 cedar trees were used for the determination of relations between heights and diameters of the trees and their thickness. The comparison of these relations for the same tree species showed that they were similar to those for trees growing in different forests, whereas their mean values for spruce and fir were almost identical. The comparison of the factual and table data on spruce stem volumes showed that the results obtained for the forest stocking were overestimated. This fact attests that new tables of tree volumes should be compiled.
