Determination of (2,4-dichlorophenoxy)acetic acid residue in orange using high performance liquid chromatography

An HPLC method was developed for the detection of 2,4-D in orange. The herbicide was extracted from orange with water, and purified by passing through silica solid-phase extraction cartridge. An ODS-3 C18 column (4.6 x 150 mm, 5 micro m) was used for analysis at 30 degrees C. Elution was conducted with methanol-water (80:20 v/v; pH 3.0) at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/minute. The detection wavelength was 282 nm.
