The effect of hCG administration on ovulation in different follicular stage in mares in estrus

This study was conducted in mares at oestrus during the breeding season. The optimum time of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) injection was investigated. 39 mares aged between 7 and 14 years were used in this study. The dominant follicle diameter was measured in mares showing signs of oestrus. The mares were divided into 4 groups according to the follicle size: group I (n=9, 30-34 mm); group II (n=11, 35-39 mm); group III (n=10, 40-44 mm); and group IV (n=9, >44 mm).
