The hybrid between H. tuberosus (n=51) and H. annuus (n = 17) formed 32 to 34 bivalents and 0 to 6 univalents, except for occasional cells with 8 univalents. Multivalents were rare (one per 38 pollen mother cells). The frequent production of 34 bivalents indicates that one of the genoms of H. tuberosus (Bt) is homologous with that of H. annuus (Ba), while the other two H. tuberosus genoms (At1 and At2) pair autosyndetically. The F1 may then be represented as At1Bt/At2Ba.
