Attention has already been drawn to the prevalence in Germany of recent years of the ' straw-breaking ' form of parasitic lodging of cereals. Fusarium nivale, F. culmorum, and other well-known species of Fusarium are commonly isolated from diseased plants, but the inconclusive outcome of inoculation experiments with these fungi showed that they are not primarily responsible for the symptoms.
