Control at will of the sexual cycle in ewes. V. The function of cyclic and experimental corpora lutea in sheep.

Control at will of the sexual cycle in ewes. V. The function of cyclic and experimental corpora lutea in sheep.

Trud. Dinam. Razvit 11: 53-58

Surgical removal of cyclic corpora lutea from 60 normal ewes was followed in 25-50 hrs. by ovulation (85%) and oestrus (80%). This effect was produced at any time during the year, and from the 2nd to 15th day of a normal sexual cycle. The subsequent oestrus occurred in 17 days following the induced oestrus, i.e. the normal periodicity of sexual cycle was completely displaced. Failure to remove even a single corpus luteum inhibited both the oestrus and ovulation.
