Abstract
The 12-chromosome form previously ascribed to S. nigrum (Cf. "Plant Breeding Abstracts", Vol. VI, Abst. 1282) has been separated as a new species, S. photeinocarpum Nakamura et Odashima. S. nigrum (n = 36) inhabits the temperate region of the Japanese empire while 5. photeinocarpum (n = 12) is confined to the sub-tropical and tropical parts.
