Effect of Thyroxin and the Anterior Pituitary Growth Hormone on Endochondral Ossification. Species Used: The Rat

Effect of Thyroxin and the Anterior Pituitary Growth Hormone on Endochondral Ossification. Species Used: The Rat

Arch. Path, 34: 334-357

Normal female rats injected with 0.005 mg. thyroxin daily for 251 days showed no macro- or microscopic increase in the rate of endpchpndral ossification in the tibia or rib, whereas injections of bovine anterior pituitary extract, containing the growth hormone, resulted in an increase in body weight and length, and the histological picture of the tibia and rib was one of active endochondral ossification.
